Griff received his Bachelor of Arts degree with distinction in Psychology from the University of Rochester, where he was captain of the swim team. He graduated from the Syracuse University College of Law and is admitted to practice before the courts of the State of Connecticut, the United States District Court for the District of Connecticut, the United States Court of Appeals, Second Circuit and the United States Supreme Court. He concentrates in the areas of commercial and personal injury litigation, real estate transactions, and workers' compensation. He was an instructor at the American Institute of Banking, and has served as a Pre-Trial Master and Foreclosure Committee for the Connecticut Superior Court. He is currently the Vice-Chair of the City of Stamford Harbor Management Commission as well as a member of the Board of Directors Fellowship for Jewish Learning. He is a former member of the Board of Directors of the Regional Bar Association, former President of the Shippan Point Association, former Vice President of the Old Stone Bridge Homeowners' Association, and former President of the Fellowship for Jewish Learning.

Griff resides with his wife and two college-age children in Stamford. He is an accomplished photographer, and enjoys competitive kayaking and windsurfing.
